Food processing industry
Extended shelf life
Electron beam treatment of food is authorised by the World Health Organisation WHO and the World Food Safety Organisation (FAO). The results of accelerated electron beam treatment can increase the shelf life of food products by 2-4 times.
Reduced microbial contamination
Electron beam treatment of food products is much more effective and safer than fumigation, most preservatives, heat and chemical treatments. It can kill up to 99% of harmful bacteria and viruses.

Sterilisation

Gamma activation analysis (GAA)
The method of gamma-activation analysis (GAA) of the mass fraction of gold in rock samples consists in excitation of the stable gold isomer 197mAu by braking radiation of an electron accelerator with an energy of 8 (±0.4) MeV and subsequent registration of the induced activity of the radioactive isomer 197mAu using a detection unit of the gamma-radiation spectrum.

Irradiation of heat shrinkable products and semiconductors
The flow of accelerated electrons can serve as an effective high-tech tool that allows obtaining high-quality semiconductor materials, significantly improving them and making their production cheaper.
In addition, electron accelerators are used to irradiate polymers. In the process of irradiation the structure of polymer material changes qualitatively: the so-called "cross-linking of molecules" takes place, and the polymer ceases to be a thermoplastic. When the melting temperature is reached, the material softens, becoming elastic and rubber-like without losing its shape and remains so at further temperature increase.

Defectoscopy (Flaw detection)
Linear acceleration of electrons is the basis of the method of non-destructive testing, which allows to reliably assess the quality of cast or welded products by detecting various defects in them. The most common application of this method is weld inspection, but it is also used for other industrial purposes, including inspection of facilities during reconstruction and repair.
